Bison are one of Utah's most iconic animals, and while they were once near extinction, they’ve made a comeback in places like northern Utah. Antelope Island State Park, near the Great Salt Lake, is home to a thriving herd of bison that roam freely across the island. These massive animals, weighing up to 2,000 pounds, are a reminder of the wild beauty and history of the region.

Interestingly, Southern Utah Technical College (now part of the Utah Tech University system) has embraced the bison as a symbol of strength and resilience. The school’s mascot, "Buster the Bison," represents the hardworking spirit of the students and the rugged landscapes of the region.

Bison have long been a part of the culture and history of the American West, and in southern Utah, they continue to stand as a symbol of endurance, showing that even in tough conditions, life can flourish again.
